Reckon

Version 25.3.9396

Reckon

You can use the Reckon connector from the CData Sync application to capture data from Reckon and move it to any supported destination. To do so, you need to add the connector, authenticate to the connector, and complete your connection.

Prerequisites

To use the Reckon source with Sync, you must install and configure the CData QuickBooks Desktop Gateway. The CData QuickBooks Desktop Gateway enables read and write access to QuickBooks in environments where direct COM access is not available (for example, ASP.NET, Java, or QuickBooks on a remote machine).

Follow these steps to prepare your QuickBooks environment for the first connection:

  1. Download and install the CData QuickBooks Desktop Gateway.

  2. In QuickBooks, open the company file that you want to connect to by using an administrator account in single-user mode.

  3. Create a user in the CData QuickBooks Desktop Gateway, as follows:

    1. Open the gateway from the system tray.

    2. On the Users tab, add a user by specifying a user and password. Then, select the level of access in the Data Access menu.

Note: The CData QuickBooks Desktop Gateway does not use the User and Password properties to access QuickBooks. These values authenticate the user to the gateway. Authentication to QuickBooks is managed through the Application Name property.

  4. Authorize the application. The first time that you connect, QuickBooks displays a dialog box prompting you to authorize the gateway. After authorization, you can run queries and commands against QuickBooks. Enter the CData QuickBooks Desktop Gateway URL along with the user name and password that you created. By default, the gateway connects to the currently open company file.

  5. (Optional) Enable background access. If you want to connect when QuickBooks is not running, save the company file information for the user. The CData QuickBooks Desktop Gateway automatically will launch QuickBooks in the background and open the company file for that user.

Notes:

  • If the QuickBooks UI is open, you can connect only to that company file. The user permissions that you configure in the CData QuickBooks Desktop Gateway must match the permissions for the QuickBooks user.

  • The CData QuickBooks Desktop Gateway installs as a service in the current user account.

Add the Reckon Connector

To enable Sync to use data from Reckon, you first must add the connector, as follows:

  1. Open the Connections page of the Sync dashboard.

  2. Click Add Connection to open the Select Connectors page.

  3. Click the Sources tab and locate the Reckon row.

  4. Click the Configure Connection icon at the end of that row to open the New Connection page. If the Configure Connection icon is not available, click the Download Connector icon to install the Reckon connector. For more information about installing new connectors, see Connections.

Authenticate to Reckon

After you add the connector, you need to set the required properties.

  • Connection Name - Enter a connection name of your choice.

  • User - Enter the username that you use to authenticate to CData Sync QuickBooks Desktop Gateway.

  • Password - Enter the password that you use to authenticate to the CData QuickBooks Desktop Gateway.

  • URL - Enter the URL for the CData QuickBooks Desktop Gateway. The Sync application makes requests to Reckon through the gateway.

Complete Your Connection

To complete your connection:

  1. Define advanced connection settings on the Advanced tab. (In most cases, though, you should not need these settings.)

  2. Click Create & Test to create your connection.
