Cassandra

You can use the Cassandra connector from the CData Sync application to capture data from Cassandra and move it to any supported destination. To do so, you need to add the connector, authenticate to the connector, and complete your connection.

Add the Cassandra Connector

To enable Sync to use data from Cassandra, you first must add the connector, as follows:

  1. Open the Connections page of the Sync dashboard.

  2. Click Add Connection to open the Select Connectors page.

  3. Click the Sources tab and locate the Cassandra row.

  4. Click the Configure Connection icon at the end of that row to open the New Connection page. If the Configure Connection icon is not available, click the Download Connector icon to install the Cassandra connector. For more information about installing new connectors, see Connections.

Authenticate to Cassandra

After you add the connector, you need to set the required properties.

  • Connection Name - Enter a connection name of your choice.

  • Server - Enter the host name or IP address that hosts the Cassandra database. The default server is localhost.

  • Port - Enter the port number for the Cassandra database. The default port value is 9042.

CData Sync supports authenticating to Cassandra in several ways. Select your authentication method below to proceed to the relevant section that contains the authentication details.

Basic

To connect with your user credentials, set the following properties:

  • Auth Scheme: Select Basic.

  • User: Enter the username that you use to authenticate to your Cassandra account.

  • Password: Enter the password that you use to authenticate to your Cassandra account.

Note: In the cassandra.yaml file, you also need to set the authenticator property to PasswordAuthenticator.

DataStax Enterprise

To connect DSE and the DSE Unified Authenticator, set the following properties:

  • Auth Scheme: Select DSE.

  • User - Enter the username that you use to authenticate to your Cassandra account.

  • Password - Enter the password that you use to authenticate to your Cassandra account.

Note: In the cassandra.yaml file, you also need to set the authenticator property to com.datastax.bdp.cassandra.auth.DseAuthenticator.

Kerberos

To connect with Kerberos, specify these settings:

  • Auth Scheme - Select Kerberos.

  • User - Enter the username that you use to authenticate to your Cassandra account.

  • Password - Enter the password that you use to authenticate to your Cassandra account.

  • Kerberos KDC - Enter the host name or IP address of your Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) machine.

  • Kerberos Realm - Enter the Kerberos realm that you use to authenticate to Kerberos.

  • Kerberos SPN - Enter the service principal name (SPN) for the Kerberos domain controller.

  • Kerberos User - Enter the principal name for the Kerberos Domain Controller. The name should be in the form Host/User@Realm.

  • Kerberos Keytab File (optional) - Enter the full file path to your Kerberos keytab file.

  • Kerberos Ticket Cache (optional) - Enter the full file path to an MIT Kerberos credential cache file.

Note: In the cassandra.yaml file, you also need to set the authenticator property to com.datastax.bdp.cassandra.auth.DseAuthenticator.

LDAP

To connect with LDAP credentials, specify the following properties:

  • Auth Scheme - Select LDAP.

  • LDAP Server - Enter the host name or the IP address of your LDAP server.

  • User - Enter the username that you use to authenticate to the Cassandra database.

  • Password - Enter the password that you use to authenticate to the Cassandra database.

  • LDAP Password - Enter the password of the default LDAP user.

    Note: You must set the password if the LDAP server does not allow anonymous bind.

  • LDAP Port - Enter the port for your LDAP server. The default port is 389.

  • Default LDAP User - Enter the default LDAP user used to connect to and communicate with the server, it must be set if the LDAP server do not allow anonymous bind.

  • Search Base - Enter the user-lookup search base for your LDAP server.

  • Search Filter - Enter the search filter that you want to use to look up usernames in LDAP. The default setting is (uid=)

Note: In the cassandra.yaml file, you also need to set the authenticator property to com.datastax.bdp.cassandra.auth.DseAuthenticator.

Complete Your Connection

To complete your connection:

  1. Specify the following properties:

    • Database (optional) - Enter the name of the Cassandra database.

    • Use SSL - Select whether you want to enable Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). The default value is False.

    • Consistency Level - Select the level that determines the number of the replicas from which you want to enforce a response before queries are considered a success. The default level is ONE.

  2. Define advanced connection settings on the Advanced tab. (In most cases, though, you should not need these settings.)

  3. Click Create & Test to create your connection.
