Dynamics 365 Connector Setup


The Dynamics 365 connector allows you to integrate Dynamics 365 into your data flow by pushing or pulling data from Dynamics 365. Follow the steps below to connect CData Arc to Dynamics 365.

Establish a Connection

To allow Arc to use data from Dynamics 365, you must first establish a connection to Dynamics 365. There are two ways to establish this connection:

  • Add a Dynamics 365 connector to your flow. Then, in the settings pane, click Create next to the Connection drop-down list.
  • Open the Arc Settings page, then open the Connections tab. Click Add, select Dynamics 365, and click Next.

Note:

  • The login process is only required the first time the connection is created.
  • Connections to Dynamics 365 can be re-used across multiple Dynamics 365 connectors.

Follow these steps to finish creating your connection:

  1. Enter the following connection information in the Add Connnection modal:
    • Name — The static name of the connection. Set a name of your choice.
    • Type — The connector name. This field is always set to Dynamics 365.
    • Connection — The connection type to use for the connection. Options are AzureAD, AzureServicePrincipal, and AzureMSI.
    • Organizational URL — The URL to your Microsoft Dynamics 365 organization.
    • Edition — The Microsoft Dynamics 365 edition. The following editions are supported: CustomerService, FieldService, FinOpsOnline, FinOpsOnPremise, HumanResources, Marketing, ProjectOperations, and Sales.

    Create the connection according to your selected connection type:

    • AzureAD — Click Connect and log in to your Dynamics 365 account.
    • AzureServicePrincipal — Enter the tenant Id of your Microsoft Azure Active Directory in the Azure Tenant field.
    • AzureMSI — Use Managed Service Identity (MSI) credentials to connect. If you run Microsoft Dynamics 365 on an Azure virtual machine, you can MSI credentials. These credentials are obtained automatically for authentication.
  2. Enter advanced settings, if necessary, by clicking Advanced to open a drop-down menu of advanced connection settings.

    Note: These settings should not be necessary in most cases.

  3. Click Connect to ensure that Arc can connect to Dynamics 365 with the provided information. If an error occurs, check all fields and try again.

  4. Click Add Connection to finalize the connection.

  5. Select the newly created connection from the Connection drop-down list that appears on the Settings tab of the Configuration pane.

  6. Click Save Changes.

Select an Action

After establishing a connection to Dynamics 365, you must choose the action that the Dynamics 365 connector will perform. The table below outlines each action and where it belongs in an Arc flow.

Action Description Position in Flow
Upsert Inserts or updates Dynamics 365 data. By default, if a record already exists in Dynamics 365, an update is performed on the existing data in Dynamics 365 using the values provided from the input. End
Lookup Retrieves a value from Dynamics 365 and inserts that value into an already-existing Arc message in the flow.
The Lookup Query determines what value the connector will retrieve from Dynamics 365. It should be formatted as a SQL query against the Dynamics 365 tables.
Middle
Select Retrieves data from Dynamics 365 and brings it into Arc.
You can use the Filter panel to add filters to the Select. These filters function similarly to WHERE clauses in SQL.
Beginning
Execute Stored Procedures Treats data coming into the connector as input for a stored procedure, and then passes the result down the flow.
You can click the Show Sample Data button to provide sample inputs to the selected Stored Procedure and preview the results.
