ODBC Driver for Amazon S3

Build 26.0.9770

Data Model

The CData ODBC Driver for Amazon S3 models Amazon S3 data as an easy-to-use SQL database. There are three parts to the data model: tables, views, and stored procedures. Live connectivity to these objects means any changes to your Amazon S3 account are immediately reflected when you connect.

Schemas

The CData ODBC Driver for Amazon S3 exposes two kinds of schemas:

  • Per-bucket schemas: One schema for each accessible S3 bucket. Each per-bucket schema contains the read-only Objects and ObjectACLs views.
  • Information schema: A schema named Information that holds the Buckets table, the bucket-configuration views (such as BucketACLs, BucketAnalytics, and PublicAccessBlock), and the federated AllObjects and AllObjectACLs views that span every bucket listed in the Buckets connection property.

You control which schemas are visible by setting the following connection properties:

  • Buckets: A comma-separated list of bucket names (for example, bucket1,bucket2). When you set this property, the CData ODBC Driver for Amazon S3 uses exactly the buckets you list as per-bucket schemas, instead of discovering every bucket in the account, and uses them as the source for the Information federated views.
  • BrowsableSchemas: Restricts the schemas reported in sys_schemas to a specified subset.
  • BucketLocation: Restricts the visible schemas to buckets located in a specified AWS region.

You can also target a specific schema directly in a query by using a qualified identifier, for example:

"mybucket".Objects
.

Tables

The Tables section, which details standard SQL tables, and the Views section, which lists read-only SQL tables, contain samples of what you might have access to in your Amazon S3 account.

The following tables are included:

Table Description
Buckets Provides detailed information about S3 buckets, which are the top-level containers used to organize and store objects and their metadata. Supports INSERT and DELETE to create and remove buckets. Exposed under the Information schema.

Views

The following views are included. All views are read-only. Except for the federated AllObjects and AllObjectACLs views, which draw on the buckets configured by the Buckets connection property, each view is scoped to a single bucket, identified either by the schema you query or by a Bucket filter:

View Description
Objects Lists the objects stored in a bucket, including each object's key, size, storage metadata, and owner. This view is read-only; use the UploadObject stored procedure to add objects and the DeleteObject stored procedure to remove them.
BucketACLs Displays the access control lists (ACLs) for a bucket, showing the user- and group-level grants that define who can read, write, or manage the bucket.
ObjectACLs Displays the ACLs for an object, showing the grants that define read and write permissions at the object level.
BucketAnalytics Retrieves the analytics configurations for a bucket, which define storage-class analysis and data-usage patterns for optimizing storage costs.
BucketCORS Returns the cross-origin resource sharing (CORS) rules configured for a bucket, which allow controlled access to S3 resources from external domains.
BucketInventory Provides the inventory configurations for a bucket, which define the scheduled reports that list objects and their metadata for auditing or data management.
BucketLifecycle Shows the lifecycle rules for a bucket, which automate object transitions between storage classes or schedule deletions to optimize data retention.
BucketReplication Displays the replication settings for a bucket, including the cross-region replication rules that automatically copy objects to another bucket.
PublicAccessBlock Retrieves the PublicAccessBlock settings for a bucket, which control whether public access to the bucket is allowed or restricted.
AllObjects Provides a federated view of the objects across every bucket configured in the Buckets connection property, exposed under the Information schema.
AllObjectACLs Provides a federated view of the object-level ACLs across every configured bucket, exposed under the Information schema.

Stored Procedures

Stored Procedures are function-like interfaces that you invoke with SQL queries. They perform tasks beyond standard create, read, update, and delete (CRUD) operations, such as uploading and downloading objects, copying and moving objects, generating presigned URLs, managing bucket and object ACLs, creating and deleting buckets, retrieving the AWS caller identity, and managing OAuth tokens.
