Querying with the DataReader
The CData ADO.NET Provider for JD Edwards implements two ADO.NET interfaces you can use to retrieve data from JD Edwards: JDEdwardsDataAdapter and JDEdwardsDataReader objects. Whereas JDEdwardsDataAdapter objects retrieve a single result set of all the data that matches a query, JDEdwardsDataReader objects fetch data in subset increments as needed.
Using the JDEdwardsDataReader
The JDEdwardsDataReader retrieves data faster than the JDEdwardsDataAdapter because it can retrieve data in pages. As you read data from the JDEdwardsDataReader, it periodically requests the next page of results from the data source, if required. This causes results to be returned at a faster rate. The following example selects all the columns from the AccountsPayable.AccountLedger table:
C#
string connectionString = "URL=https://your-jde-environment-app.example.com;User=admin;Password=myPassword;";
using (JDEdwardsConnection connection = new JDEdwardsConnection(connectionString)) {
JDEdwardsCommand cmd = new JDEdwardsCommand("SELECT * FROM AccountsPayable.AccountLedger", connection);
JDEdwardsDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader();
while (rdr.Read()) {
Console.WriteLine(String.Format("\t{0} --> \t\t{1}", rdr["DocumentNumber"], rdr["Amount"]));
}
}
VB.NET
Dim connectionString As String = "URL=https://your-jde-environment-app.example.com;User=admin;Password=myPassword;"
Using connection As New JDEdwardsConnection(connectionString)
Dim cmd As New JDEdwardsCommand("SELECT * FROM AccountsPayable.AccountLedger", connection)
Dim rdr As JDEdwardsDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader()
While rdr.Read()
Console.WriteLine([String].Format(vbTab & "{0} --> " & vbTab & vbTab & "{1}", rdr("DocumentNumber"), rdr("Amount")))
End While
End Using
