ADO.NET Provider for Paylocity

Build 24.0.9060

Querying with the DataReader

The CData ADO.NET Provider for Paylocity implements two ADO.NET interfaces you can use to retrieve data from Paylocity: PaylocityDataAdapter and PaylocityDataReader objects. Whereas PaylocityDataAdapter objects retrieve a single result set of all the data that matches a query, PaylocityDataReader objects fetch data in subset increments as needed.

Using the PaylocityDataReader

The PaylocityDataReader retrieves data faster than the PaylocityDataAdapter because it can retrieve data in pages. As you read data from the PaylocityDataReader, it periodically requests the next page of results from the data source, if required. This causes results to be returned at a faster rate. The following example selects all the columns from the Employee table:

C#

string connectionString = "InitiateOauth=GETANDREFRESH;OAuthClientID=YourClientId;OAuthClientSecret=YourClientSecret;CompanyId=YourCompanyId;";

using (PaylocityConnection connection = new PaylocityConnection(connectionString)) {
  PaylocityCommand cmd = new PaylocityCommand("SELECT * FROM Employee", connection);

  PaylocityDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader();

  while (rdr.Read()) {
    Console.WriteLine(String.Format("\t{0} --> \t\t{1}", rdr["FirstName"], rdr["LastName"]));
  }
}

VB.NET

Dim connectionString As String = "InitiateOauth=GETANDREFRESH;OAuthClientID=YourClientId;OAuthClientSecret=YourClientSecret;CompanyId=YourCompanyId;"

Using connection As New PaylocityConnection(connectionString)
  Dim cmd As New PaylocityCommand("SELECT * FROM Employee", connection)

  Dim rdr As PaylocityDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader()

  While rdr.Read()
    Console.WriteLine([String].Format(vbTab & "{0} --> " & vbTab & vbTab & "{1}", rdr("FirstName"), rdr("LastName")))
  End While
End Using
