ADO.NET Provider for QuickBooks Time

Build 25.0.9434

Querying with the DataAdapter

The CData ADO.NET Provider for QuickBooks Time implements two ADO.NET interfaces you can use to retrieve data from QuickBooks Time: QuickBooksTimeDataAdapter and QuickBooksTimeDataReader objects. Whereas QuickBooksTimeDataAdapter objects retrieve a single result set of all the data that matches a query, QuickBooksTimeDataReader objects fetch data in subset increments as needed.

Using the QuickBooksTimeDataAdapter

Use the adapter's Fill method to retrieve data from the data source. An empty DataTable instance is passed as an argument to the Fill method. When the method returns, the DataTable instance is populated with the queried data. Note that the QuickBooksTimeDataAdapter is slower than the QuickBooksTimeDataReader because the Fill method needs to retrieve all data from the data source before returning.

The following example selects the Id and JobcodeId columns of the Timesheets table:

C#

string connectionString = "OAuthClientId=myclientid;OAuthClientSecret=myclientsecret;InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;CallbackUrl=http://localhost:33333;";

using (QuickBooksTimeConnection connection = new QuickBooksTimeConnection(connectionString)) {
  QuickBooksTimeDataAdapter dataAdapter = new QuickBooksTimeDataAdapter(
  "SELECT Id, JobcodeId FROM Timesheets", connection);

  DataTable table = new DataTable();
  dataAdapter.Fill(table);

  Console.WriteLine("Contents of Timesheets.");

  foreach (DataRow row in table.Rows) {
    Console.WriteLine("{0}: {1}", row["Id"], row["JobcodeId"]);
  }
}

VB.NET

Dim connectionString As String = "OAuthClientId=myclientid;OAuthClientSecret=myclientsecret;InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;CallbackUrl=http://localhost:33333;"

Using connection As New QuickBooksTimeConnection(connectionString)
  Dim dataAdapter As New QuickBooksTimeDataAdapter("SELECT Id, JobcodeId FROM Timesheets", connection)

  Dim table As New DataTable()
  dataAdapter.Fill(table)

  Console.WriteLine("Contents of Timesheets.")

  For Each row As DataRow In table.Rows
    Console.WriteLine("{0}: {1}", row("Id"), row("JobcodeId"))
  Next
End Using
