ADO.NET Provider for SurveyMonkey

Build 23.0.8839

Querying with the DataReader

The CData ADO.NET Provider for SurveyMonkey implements two ADO.NET interfaces you can use to retrieve data from SurveyMonkey: SurveyMonkeyDataAdapter and SurveyMonkeyDataReader objects. Whereas SurveyMonkeyDataAdapter objects retrieve a single result set of all the data that matches a query, SurveyMonkeyDataReader objects fetch data in subset increments as needed.

Using the SurveyMonkeyDataReader

The SurveyMonkeyDataReader retrieves data faster than the SurveyMonkeyDataAdapter because it can retrieve data in pages. As you read data from the SurveyMonkeyDataReader, it periodically requests the next page of results from the data source, if required. This causes results to be returned at a faster rate. The following example selects all the columns from the MySurvey_Responses table:

C#

string connectionString = "InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;OAuthClientId=MyOAuthClientId;OAuthClientSecret=MyOAuthClientSecret;CallbackURL=http://localhost:portNumber;";

using (SurveyMonkeyConnection connection = new SurveyMonkeyConnection(connectionString)) {
  SurveyMonkeyCommand cmd = new SurveyMonkeyCommand("SELECT * FROM MySurvey_Responses", connection);

  SurveyMonkeyDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader();

  while (rdr.Read()) {
    Console.WriteLine(String.Format("\t{0} --> \t\t{1}", rdr["RespondentId"], rdr["ChoiceId"]));
  }
}

VB.NET

Dim connectionString As String = "InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;OAuthClientId=MyOAuthClientId;OAuthClientSecret=MyOAuthClientSecret;CallbackURL=http://localhost:portNumber;"

Using connection As New SurveyMonkeyConnection(connectionString)
  Dim cmd As New SurveyMonkeyCommand("SELECT * FROM MySurvey_Responses", connection)

  Dim rdr As SurveyMonkeyDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader()

  While rdr.Read()
    Console.WriteLine([String].Format(vbTab & "{0} --> " & vbTab & vbTab & "{1}", rdr("RespondentId"), rdr("ChoiceId")))
  End While
End Using
