To generate a Personal Access Token for your GitHub account: To ensure full driver functionality with either a user or organization account, you must generate a classic Personal Access Token.

  1. Navigate to Tokens (classic).
  2. Just below the top-right corner of the page, click Generate new token > Generate new token (classic).
  3. Enter a description in the Note field to describe, for your own future reference, what you intend to use this token for.
  4. Set the Expiration field to the date you want your token to expire, or set it to No expiration if you want the token to remain usable indefinitely (GitHub strongly recommends setting an expiration date to keep your information secure).
  5. Select the following scopes (select the top-level scopes, which include all sub-scopes of that category, unless noted otherwise):
    • gist
    • repo
    • delete_repo
    • project
    • admin:org
    • admin:enterprise
    • user
    • read:repo_hook (under admin:repo_hook)
    • read:public_key (under admin:public_key)
    • read:gpg_key (under admin:gpg_key)
  6. Click Generate token at the bottom of the page. You are then redirected back to the Tokens (classic) page.
  7. The newly created token is displayed at the top of the token list. Copy and save this value, since you cannot view it again after leaving the page.
