ADO.NET Provider for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations

Build 21.0.7930

Querying with the DataAdapter

The CData ADO.NET Provider for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations implements two ADO.NET interfaces you can use to retrieve data from Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations: D365FinOpDataAdapter and D365FinOpDataReader objects. Whereas D365FinOpDataAdapter objects retrieve a single result set of all the data that matches a query, D365FinOpDataReader objects fetch data in subset increments as needed.

Using the D365FinOpDataAdapter

Use the adapter's Fill method to retrieve data from the data source. An empty DataTable instance is passed as an argument to the Fill method. When the method returns, the DataTable instance is populated with the queried data. Note that the D365FinOpDataAdapter is slower than the D365FinOpDataReader because the Fill method needs to retrieve all data from the data source before returning.

The following example selects the accountid and Name columns of the Accounts table:

string connectionString = "InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;OrganizationUrl=;";

using (D365FinOpConnection connection = new D365FinOpConnection(connectionString)) {
  D365FinOpDataAdapter dataAdapter = new D365FinOpDataAdapter(
  "SELECT accountid, Name FROM Accounts", connection);

  DataTable table = new DataTable();

  Console.WriteLine("Contents of Accounts.");

  foreach (DataRow row in table.Rows) {
    Console.WriteLine("{0}: {1}", row["accountid"], row["Name"]);

Dim connectionString As String = "InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;OrganizationUrl=;"

Using connection As New D365FinOpConnection(connectionString)
  Dim dataAdapter As New D365FinOpDataAdapter("SELECT accountid, Name FROM Accounts", connection)

  Dim table As New DataTable()

  Console.WriteLine("Contents of Accounts.")

  For Each row As DataRow In table.Rows
    Console.WriteLine("{0}: {1}", row("accountid"), row("Name"))
End Using
