Getting Started
The CData Tableau Connector for API is built on top of a JDBC driver. This section discusses how to install the connector, set up a data source, and connect from Tableau.
Installing the Connector
Installing the Connector describes how to install the CData Tableau Connector for API.
Connecting from Tableau
Configuring a Connection shows how to create a API Data Source from Tableau's Connect To Server window.
Tableau Version Support
The connector supports Tableau Desktop 2020.1 or later and Tableau Prep 2020.4.1 or later. Versions between 2020.1 and 2020.3 of Tableau Desktop are supported via the legacy connector file (cdata.api.legacy.taco) and versions 2020.3 and higher are supported using the modern connector file (cdata.api.taco).
For older versions of Tableau, use the CData ODBC Driver for API or the CData JDBC Driver for API to connect.
API Version Support
The connector models local XML/JSON files and remote REST service APIs as read/write tables. In addition to processing XML or JSON data, the connector also abstracts authentication, HTTP, and SSL/TLS: The major authentication schemes are supported, including HTTP Basic, Digest, and NTLM. The connector also facilitates connecting to data sources that use the OAuth authentication standard.
