MCP Server for Redis

Build 25.0.9440

Establishing a Connection

The CData MCP Server for Redis defines each connection to Redis as a named configuration that Claude can use when sending natural language queries.

You create and manage these configurations using the MCP Configuration Tool. The tool automatically handles formatting, storage, and registration with Claude Desktop.

Understanding Connection Configurations

Each connection configuration is stored in a .mcp file. This file includes the details needed to initialize the connector when Claude starts a session.

  • On Windows, configuration files are stored in "~/AppData/Roaming/CData/Redis Data Provider/".
  • On macOS, configuration files are stored in "~/Library/Application Support/CData/Redis Data Provider/".

The .mcp file is a text file that contains a list of connection properties and a timestamp. For example:

#Tue May 20 15:48:40 EDT 2025
AuthScheme=Basic
User=myUser
Password=myPassword
Security Token=myToken

The configuration tool handles these settings automatically. Each saved configuration enables Claude to launch a dedicated MCP Server instance with the correct connector and options. Manual file editing is not required.

Connecting to Redis

Set the Server connection property to the name or address of the server your Redis instance is running on.

If your Redis server is running on a port other than the default (6379), you can specify your port in the Port property.

Authenticating to Redis

The server supports Password and ACL authentication. Connections to Redis instances that aren't password protected are supported as well.

No Authentication

Set the AuthScheme property to None. This indicates the Redis instance is not password protected (using the requirepass directive in the configuration file).

Password

Set the AuthScheme property to Password and set the Password property to the password used to authenticate with a password protected Redis instance using the Redis AUTH command.

ACL (Access Control List)

Set the following to connect:

  • AuthScheme: Set this to ACL.
  • User: Set this to the username you use to authenticate with Redis ACL.
  • Password: Set this to the password you use to authenticate with Redis ACL.

Securing Redis Connections

You can set UseSSL to negotiate SSL/TLS encryption when you connect.
