Tableau Connector for JSON

Build 23.0.8839

Getting Started

The CData Tableau Connector for JSON is built on top of a JDBC driver. This section discusses how to install the connector, set up a data source, and connect from Tableau.

Installing the Connector

Installing the Connector describes how to install the CData Tableau Connector for JSON.

Connecting from Tableau

Configuring a Connection shows how to create a JSON Data Source from Tableau's Connect To Server window.

Tableau Version Support

The connector supports Tableau Desktop 2020.1 or later and Tableau Prep 2020.4.1 or later. Versions between 2020.1 and 2020.3 of Tableau Desktop are supported via the legacy connector file (cdata.json.legacy.taco) and versions 2020.3 and higher are supported using the modern connector file (cdata.json.taco).

For older versions of Tableau, use the CData ODBC Driver for JSON or the CData JDBC Driver for JSON to connect.

JSON Version Support

The connector models local and remote JSON data sources as bidirectional tables. These can be local JSON files or remote JSON streams: RESTful APIs or file stores hosted on FTP servers or popular cloud storage providers. The connector abstracts processing JSON data and connecting to the remote data: HTTP/FTP, SSL/TLS, and authentication: The major authentication schemes are supported, including HTTP Basic, Digest, FTP, NTLM, and OAuth.
