Tableau Connector for Google BigQuery

Build 23.0.8839

Getting Started

The CData Tableau Connector for Google BigQuery is built on top of a JDBC driver. This section discusses how to install the connector, set up a data source, and connect from Tableau.

Installing the Connector

Installing the Connector describes how to install the CData Tableau Connector for Google BigQuery.

Connecting from Tableau

Configuring a Connection shows how to create a Google BigQuery Data Source from Tableau's Connect To Server window.

Tableau Version Support

The connector supports Tableau Desktop 2020.1 or later and Tableau Prep 2020.4.1 or later. Versions between 2020.1 and 2020.3 of Tableau Desktop are supported via the legacy connector file (cdata.googlebigquery.legacy.taco) and versions 2020.3 and higher are supported using the modern connector file (cdata.googlebigquery.taco).

For older versions of Tableau, use the CData ODBC Driver for Google BigQuery or the CData JDBC Driver for Google BigQuery to connect.

Google BigQuery Version Support

The connector enables read/write SQL-92 access to the BigQuery tables in your Google account or Google Apps domain. The complete aggregate and join syntax in BigQuery is supported. Additionally, statements in the BigQuery syntax can be passed through. The connector uses version 2.0 of the BigQuery Web services API: You must enable this API by creating a project in the Google Developers Console. See Connecting to Google for a guide to creating a project and authenticating to this API.
