ADO.NET Provider for Microsoft Office 365

Build 23.0.8839

Querying with the DataReader

The CData ADO.NET Provider for Microsoft Office 365 implements two ADO.NET interfaces you can use to retrieve data from Microsoft Office 365: Office365DataAdapter and Office365DataReader objects. Whereas Office365DataAdapter objects retrieve a single result set of all the data that matches a query, Office365DataReader objects fetch data in subset increments as needed.

Using the Office365DataReader

The Office365DataReader retrieves data faster than the Office365DataAdapter because it can retrieve data in pages. As you read data from the Office365DataReader, it periodically requests the next page of results from the data source, if required. This causes results to be returned at a faster rate. The following example selects all the columns from the Events table:

C#

string connectionString = "InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;OAuthClientId=MyApplicationId;OAuthClientSecret=MySecretKey;CallbackURL=http://localhost:33333;";

using (Office365Connection connection = new Office365Connection(connectionString)) {
  Office365Command cmd = new Office365Command("SELECT * FROM Events", connection);

  Office365DataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader();

  while (rdr.Read()) {
    Console.WriteLine(String.Format("\t{0} --> \t\t{1}", rdr["Id"], rdr["location_displayName"]));
  }
}

VB.NET

Dim connectionString As String = "InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;OAuthClientId=MyApplicationId;OAuthClientSecret=MySecretKey;CallbackURL=http://localhost:33333;"

Using connection As New Office365Connection(connectionString)
  Dim cmd As New Office365Command("SELECT * FROM Events", connection)

  Dim rdr As Office365DataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader()

  While rdr.Read()
    Console.WriteLine([String].Format(vbTab & "{0} --> " & vbTab & vbTab & "{1}", rdr("Id"), rdr("location_displayName")))
  End While
End Using
