Installing the MCP Server
The CData MCP Server for Microsoft Dynamics NAV is a lightweight connector that runs locally and makes Microsoft Dynamics NAV data accessible to Claude Desktop through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Installation uses a single installer package that includes the MCP Server, connector files, and a configuration tool for setting up connections.
Download and Install
Download the latest installer for the MCP Server from the CData website. Then follow the installation steps for your operating system:
- Windows: Run the installer and follow the prompts. The MCP Server and connector components are installed automatically, and the configuration tool is added to the Start menu.
- macOS: Open the downloaded .dmg file. Drag the MCP Server icon to the Applications folder. The MCP Server is then available in Finder or can be launched from the Terminal at "/Applications/CData MCP Server for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2024.app/Contents/MacOS/Launcher".
Important: The macOS build is supported only on Apple Silicon. Intel-based Macs are not supported.
Run the Configuration Tool
After installation, launch the CData MCP Server for Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
- Windows: Launch the tool from the Start menu.
- macOS: Open it from Finder or run it from the Terminal.
Use the tool to define your connection details:
- Open the Configuration Name drop-down and select an existing configuration, or create a new one.
- Enter the required connection string properties.
- Save the configuration. Each saved configuration defines a connection Claude can access by name.
Start Claude
After saving your configuration, launch Claude Desktop to start querying your data source.
Claude automatically detects available MCP connections, starts the server as needed, and responds to your questions using live data from Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
