ADO.NET Provider for LinkedIn

Build 23.0.8839

Querying with the DataReader

The CData ADO.NET Provider for LinkedIn implements two ADO.NET interfaces you can use to retrieve data from LinkedIn: LinkedInDataAdapter and LinkedInDataReader objects. Whereas LinkedInDataAdapter objects retrieve a single result set of all the data that matches a query, LinkedInDataReader objects fetch data in subset increments as needed.

Using the LinkedInDataReader

The LinkedInDataReader retrieves data faster than the LinkedInDataAdapter because it can retrieve data in pages. As you read data from the LinkedInDataReader, it periodically requests the next page of results from the data source, if required. This causes results to be returned at a faster rate. The following example selects all the columns from the CompanyStatusUpdates table:

C#

string connectionString = "InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;OAuthClientId=MyOAuthClientId;OAuthClientSecret=MyOAuthClientSecret;CallbackURL=http://localhost:portNumber;CompanyId=XXXXXXX";

using (LinkedInConnection connection = new LinkedInConnection(connectionString)) {
  LinkedInCommand cmd = new LinkedInCommand("SELECT * FROM CompanyStatusUpdates", connection);

  LinkedInDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader();

  while (rdr.Read()) {
    Console.WriteLine(String.Format("\t{0} --> \t\t{1}", rdr["VisibilityCode"], rdr["Comment"]));
  }
}

VB.NET

Dim connectionString As String = "InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;OAuthClientId=MyOAuthClientId;OAuthClientSecret=MyOAuthClientSecret;CallbackURL=http://localhost:portNumber;CompanyId=XXXXXXX"

Using connection As New LinkedInConnection(connectionString)
  Dim cmd As New LinkedInCommand("SELECT * FROM CompanyStatusUpdates", connection)

  Dim rdr As LinkedInDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader()

  While rdr.Read()
    Console.WriteLine([String].Format(vbTab & "{0} --> " & vbTab & vbTab & "{1}", rdr("VisibilityCode"), rdr("Comment")))
  End While
End Using
