Claude Desktop connects to ServiceNow through the CData Code Assist MCP for ServiceNow using the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

When you launch Claude, it automatically detects MCP connections registered during setup. These connections are created and saved using the CData Code Assist MCP Configuration Tool, which is installed with the MCP server.

Each saved connection is recognized by Claude and can be referenced by name when asking questions.

Installing Claude

How Claude Uses the Server

When you ask Claude a question, it launches the corresponding MCP server connection, reads the available tool descriptions provided by the connector, and generates a secure query in the background.

There is no need to write SQL or teach Claude how to query your data. Each tool is self-describing, and Claude consumes those descriptions to determine how to retrieve the right information.

After setup, you can ask Claude natural-language questions like:

• "How many open incidents are assigned to the IT support team?"
• "What are the top 10 most frequent incident categories this month?"
• "Which incidents have breached their SLA in the past week?"
• "List all critical priority incidents created in the last 24 hours."
• "List all change requests that were rejected in the last 30 days."
• "Which requests are pending approval and who are the approvers?"
• "What are the most viewed knowledge articles this quarter?"
• "What CIs are impacted by open high-priority incidents?"
• "What’s the average time to resolve an incident per assignment group?"
• "How has incident volume changed month-over-month this year?"

Claude securely executes the query using the MCP server and responds using the live results from ServiceNow.
