Azure Marketplace Edition

Azure Marketplace Edition

The CData Sync Azure Marketplace offering comes as a Windows WM with CData Sync pre-configured and ready to run, with very little additional configuration necessary. The offering can be found in the Azure Marketplace as CData Sync.

Create CData Sync Virtual Machine

  1. Select Get It Now.
  2. Choose your Plan:
  3. Select Create to begin.
    • Choose the Resource Group.
    • Name the Virtual Machine (This will be the password for the admin user in the CData Sync admin console).
    • Create an Administrator account to connect directly to the VM.
    • Make any additional changes as needed.
  4. Select Review + Create to complete the process.

Access CData Sync from Browser

After creating the VM, Azure will take you to the Virtual Machine Overview page. Once the VM has started, find the Public IP address. You can then access CData Sync in your browser at the URL.

https://<public-ip-address>

To log in, the default username is ‘admin’ and the password is the Virtual Machine’s name prefixed with Sync21:. For example, if the VM Name is MyCdataSync, the initial password to access Sync is Sync21:MyCDataSync. After logging in, you can change the password for the ‘admin’ user in the top right corner of the browser.

You can now follow the Getting Started section to create your connections and manage your jobs.

Managing your Virtual Machine

The CData Sync Azure Marketplace offering works out-of-the-box without additional configuration. However, advanced users can customize CData Sync to their liking.

Accessing the Virtual Machine from RDP

The CData Sync Virtual Machine can be accessed through RDP. In Azure, navigate to the Sync Virtual Machine’s page and select Connect on the left side. Here, you can download the RDP file and login using the Administrator account you previosly created.

Controlling the CData Sync service

CData Sync runs using Internet Information Services (IIS). Once connected to the VM, use the search bar to find the IIS Manager. In Connections panel, expand the machine name and Sites to find the Sync website. In the Actions panel, you can manage the Sync Website with Start, Stop and Restart.

Before making any changes to the Sync Application, it is best to first stop the service.

Add a New Connector

New connnectors can be added through the UI following the steps outlined on the Connections page. However, it may be required to manually update or add the connector to the VM following the below steps:

  1. Login to the VM and stop the Sync site.
  2. Copy the new connector to the bin folder: C:\Sync\www\bin
  3. Add a new entry to the DBProviderFactories element if adding a new connector.
  4. Start the Sync site.

Install the latest Sync Version

To add a newer version of Sync to your VM, download the latest Windows version from the CData Website. You will then need to run the setup in the VM.

  1. Login to the VM and stop the Sync site.
  2. Run setup.exe. Do not change the Installation folder location.
  3. Once complete, do not start the Sync Service from the setup.
  4. Return to IIS and start the Sync site.
